How Ring-and-Loop Puzzles Work

A ring can be trapped by topology rather than by a physical lock: the route of the cord or loop determines whether release is possible.

Follow the path

Trace the cord from one end to the other. The important question is not whether the ring looks enclosed, but which loops pass through which openings.

Create temporary slack

Many solutions form a larger temporary loop, pass that loop through the ring or around a post, then pull the original section back through.

Do not deform the parts

A correctly matched solution normally uses the available openings and flexibility. Bending a rigid ring or stretching a cord can damage the puzzle and hide the intended idea.

Animation pauses automatically when your device requests reduced motion.
