Materials
- 27 small card cube nets or 27 interlocking paper cubes
- Glue or low-tack tape
- Seven labels or colours
- Squared paper for recording solutions
Build steps
- Make twenty-seven equal unit cubes.
- Join them into seven non-convex polycube pieces: one piece of three cubes and six pieces of four cubes.
- Label each piece with a letter.
- Attempt to combine all pieces into a 3 × 3 × 3 cube.
- Record a successful solution layer by layer using a 3 × 3 grid for each layer.
Test and improve
- Are all unit cubes the same size?
- Are the seven pieces structurally strong but still separate?
- Can the recorded layer diagrams reproduce the solution?
Record your design
Photograph the finished puzzle, record dimensions and materials, note every change made after testing and write a short set of user instructions.
