Cut out the seven pieces, then rearrange every piece without overlaps to match each silhouette.
Cut-out tangram
Print on card or glue the page to thin card before cutting. Adult supervision is recommended when scissors are used.
Challenges
- Rebuild the original square.
- Make each silhouette using all seven pieces.
- Create an animal of your own and trace its outline.
- Can two different arrangements make the same outline?
Teacher and parent notes
Encourage rotation and reflection. A correct silhouette may have more than one internal arrangement. Ask learners to describe each transformation using mathematical language.
